National Police Week

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. The Peace Officers Memorial Day Service, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary is always held on May 15, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls. The Candlelight Vigil is traditionally held on May 13, again, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.
